Welcome to the Metropolitan Washington DC Viennese Waltz Dance Meetup Group. This Meetup Group will focus on one of, if not THE most elegant of the Ballroom dances, the Viennese Waltz. It will include opportunities to learn this beautiful but challenging dance from the beginner level on up to the most advanced in both International and American style and possibly even to create a Viennese Waltz formation to be performed at local showcase and dance events.
Because of it's level of difficulty and the need to learn the foot placement precisely, we will be initially learning the right and left turns and closed changes to slow English Waltz tempo; only to increase the speed as the figures are more embedded into muscle memory. Both right and left turns are necessary at full speed to avoid getting dizzy by turning in only one direction.
As time goes on, we will also be adding future Meetups at some of the upcoming Viennese Ball and social dance events to put our new talents to use.
Join us every Saturday from 3pm-4:30pm and every Sunday from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the Chevy Chase Ballroom to begin the learning process in this incredibly beautiful and graceful Ballroom dance.
